Jumapili: Sunday:

It was Sunday today.
Woke up slow, wash clothes, put a bedmat under the sun,
Played the guitar with my other neighbour, Ali.
Went to the walking distance small market, bought a watermelon,
2 tomato bending girls proposed me, saying "Marry me and take me your home."

Skipped this kind of offer politely, saying "Let's plan it another day".
Was asked bunch of questions about Buddhism by a neighbouring pastor,
Had little gorgeous supper, Ugali & small pieces of beef.

Nimezoea: Became Accustomed:

2 months and half since I've been here Wamumu in August.
4 months since I left Japan in June.
Time is flyingly passing by in Kenya, too.

I assume other 22-1 JOCV mates all over the world have experienced "Honeymoon Stage" which you feel everything looks so fresh & excites you.
And now time has come that you start to think "Why are these people like this all the time?"

I became pretty much accustomed to the cultural differences between Japan and Kenya; People, Habit, Language and so on. For example,

Many ask you very casually "Hey my friend, share me your money just for a little" It doesn't matter you've met him for the first time. It sounds so casual. They are not seriously asking you for money.

・"mgeni(客人)"は大歓迎。Welcome "Mgeni 'GUEST'"
They just love to welcoming guests. Once in 20m you walking in the town, one guy or madam will talk to you like "how are you, Mr.? Come here and just have a cup of chai with us!"

Married, Unmarried? No problem!
Kenyan guys will tell you "find a beautiful woman/women here and take her/them home with you as your wife!"
Kenyan ladies will tell "hey take me to your country with you when you go back"
99.9% they are joking. The rest of 0.01% seems to be increasable up to you.

Every single Japanese are KARATE master.
They are 80% seriously believing so. When I take a Karate fighting pose, they running away begging you "Do not kill me, please!!"

Born-multilingual
There are 42 tribes and more in Kenya. and they speak their own tribal language.
Kenyan are natural-born multilingual. In their conversation, you will find yourself confused in Swahili, English and local tribal tongue.

Always fully filled up!
A bottle of water you buy, A cup of chai you drink at cafe. They are always fully filled up to the lid. Seriously up to the lid.

Stones in Rice
If you are careless when you are eating rice, you end up chewing small stones in the rice.
Sometime it happens at restaurant. Every time it happens at my school.

Exceed passengers
In rural area, Matatu, a van type taxi, fill it with the exceeded number of passengers.
The other day, I counted and there are 22 passengers in ONE car.

All Asians are Chinese.

The presence of China is huge in Kenya.
"Changjing! Jackie Cheng, Ching Chong Chang" If you hear these, it is you they are calling. (if you are Asian). They think these are the common name of Chinese cos I found a motorbike branded as 'Changjing'. It is like Japanese "HONDA"
It sounds they fooling us, Asian, but actually they are just playing with us or just trying to draw our attention. Even though, I sometime just ignore them depending on my mental stability.
I hope Japanese development projects and corporations send more Japanese to Africa to increase PHYSICAL presence in Africa.

Sometime, their culture annoys, but I can't hate Kenyan. I love their welcoming culture very much. Yesterday I went to the town just to talk with shop-keepers I know.

I would like to know more about the way Kenyan live by getting known about them, I wish to live among them not as one of wageni, 'guests'.

Habari ya Kunifrahisha: Good News:

I recieved a message the other day from one of my friend who is teaching English at school in Japan.

It said she was introducing my stories to her students.

I heard the other friend of mine who is teaching Japanese were also introducing it to her students,

To be honest, I am not a diary-keeping guy. Moreover my writing skill is horriblly bad.
But actually I'm so glad to hear that my friends are sharing my experiences with their kids
because this is what I'm thinking to do after going back to Japan.

I would like to tell young Japanese students how fan to know, through English, what is happening overseas and how fan to communicate with people from overseas who share totally different point of value and cultural background with us, Japanese.

So, it's kind of my honour to hear that. If there is any story you find interesting, tell them as if it were based on your personal experiences.

Good news were also brought with bad one.

I was told that a mangoo tree at my backyard won't produce any mangoo this year.

The other mangoo trees at Wamumu have already bloomed flowers and I can see they are now with small immature mangoos.

According my neighbour, mangoo trees prodcue mangoos onece in the other year.
I look forward to next year for my Mangoo tree.

Even though,  since there are number of mangoo trees at Wamumu, we will be eating mangoos everyday until we get fed up to eating them.

Oh my sweet mangoos,,,,

Umri wa Miaka 27:27 Years Old

On October 25th, I turned into 27 years old here in Kenya.

I would like to thank all of you who send me a beautiful birthday massage not only from Japan, Kenya but also from all the different of parts of the World.

27 years old. It sounds I should be a pretty much grown-up.
Am I really as grown up as real 27 year-old guy should be? I doubt it.
I'll do my best in Kenya for this 1 year to be as grown-up, mentally mostly as  I should be.

For 27 years. I've come this far.
and in my 27th year of the life, I'm here in Kenya.

Without unconditional support from my parents, I would never be able to stand where I am now,

I do appreciate everything you've done for me, everything you've sacrifised for me.
Stay healthy and happy until I make it back to you one day.

When I chose High & Uni, When I took exams for studying abroad,  When I dicided to work in Yokohama, When I dicided to quit my job and made a dicision (been already dicided though) to go to Kenya. Whatever my choices were, you let me do whatever I chose to do.

What if I would have not chosen that High & Uni, What if I would have not dicided to study abroad in England, What if I would have not chosen that company to work, What if.....

I would never be standing right here.

In the every choice I made, I've met so many wonderful soul mates.
Everytime I made a big dicision in my life, they always gave me courage to take one step forward.

These guys are the ones who made my life path I should follow.
I've just follow that path they led me to.

"Who the heck are 'these guys'?" you might think.
YOU are the one of these guys who gave me a hand to reach here!!!

I have been blessed to meet you. Such a wonderful YOU. I appreciate you and someone up above us who brought me YOU to come accross in my life.

I will kepp taking my step one by one slowy focusing on MYSELF  after aging 5 years or more.

I wish all of you a beautiful and smileful year.
All the Best.

Masomo ya Gita: Guitar Lesson:

Nioneshe!

Maisha baada ya Wamumu Rehab.:
